Horror isn't normally my genre, but Final Girl is more than just an homage to horror movies, it's also an incredibly expansive and tightly designed puzzle where you'll have to adjust on the fly to complete your objectives while evading the threats that are after you.
Although this is a solo game, it's also the perfect game to sit down with a friend and puzzle your way through (before the dice inevitably betray your best laid plans!).
Final Girl is part of my favourite genre of games (the nearly infinitely expandable genre!). Each Feature Film kit multiplies your options, with killers and locations you can mix and match across the whole line for a huge number of combinations.
You'll need the Core Box and at least one Feature Film to start playing (available together with some miniatures in our Starter Bundles). But after that, you can take your collection in any direction you like, with 4 seasons of action to choose from.
I also personally recommend the playmat to help keep everything in order and give you the premium experience this game deserves.
Another infinitely expandable game, this time with a focus on knocking down your enemies and being the last fighter standing.
Each character in Unmatched works totally differently, but with the same simple core mechanics. On your turn you just move or play a card. The options though, are absolutely immense, with over sixty different characters and more on the way. Play as everyone from Medusa, controlling harpies and turning her enemies to stone, to Shakespeare, who drafts a poetic verse as he fights to give him bonus actions. Unmatched also features popular tie-ins including Marvel and the highly acclaimed Witcher crossovers.
Unmatched works great either as a two-player face off, a chaotic free-for-all, or as a 2V2 team battle. There's also a new series called Unmatched Adventures which lets you use your fighters together to face co-op challenges.
A classic from Magic: the Gathering creator Richard Garfield! Although he's usually associated with the trailblazing TCG, Richard has designed all kinds of board games, including this fast-paced, beginner friendly one, genuinely perfect for all ages.
As a rampaging Kaiju, you only have to worry about two things: wreaking havoc on Tokyo, and stopping anyone who tries to get in your way. On your turn you'll roll dice and decide which to keep in a way similar to Yahtzee. It's up to you to decide the balance between staying healthy, wreaking havoc to score points, and making sure you get to stay on top of Tokyo while your opponents try to do the same.
King of Tokyo gracefully handles a classic board game problem of getting picked on, as only the Kaiju who's currently in Tokyo can be attacked, while also being the only one who can score points. So if Gigazaur or the Kraken are on top, there's no need to feel bad about wailing on them.
Other recommendations:
Bunny Kingdom: I haven't had the chance to play this one yet, but it has some stellar reviews from critics I respect and sounds like a cutthroat area control game with adorable little rabbits.
